CARRARO S.p.a.
International group leader in highly efficient and eco-compatible power transmission systems, with production sites in Italy, India, Argentina, China, South Africa and Brazil.
Founded in the 30s as a manufacturing company focused on the production of seeders and tools for agricultural work, over time the company has expanded its skills, reaching notoriety and becoming – starting from the middle of the last century – one of the main Italian producers of tractors. From the 70s onwards, Carraro concentrated its core business elsewhere, specializing in components and becoming a leading player among the world producers of transmission systems which, depending on the market context, has been able to adapt its structure and revise its industrial footprint. Hence the internationalization phase that saw Carraro open production sites, since the 90s, in what would later be the so-called BRIC area countries.
Today axles and transmissions still represent the majority of the Group’s turnover, which, however, has for some time been moving towards advanced product types and new sectors. On the one hand, traditional products are being enriched in value thanks to the contribution of new technologies: mechanics increasingly dialogues with electronics, towards mechatronics. On the other hand, the new frontier is represented by solutions intended for renewable energy, such as the inverters for photovoltaics by Elettronica Santerno or the reducers and gears for wind generators.
