A world-class initiative to develop educational programs and professional skills that meet the needs of the “agriculture of the future”. This is, in a nutshell, the project of AgriFood4Future, the ERASMUS+ program, co-funded by the European Union, which brings together 23 organizations and clusters in the agribusiness and digital sectors from Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
A four-way path
AgriFood4Future aims to innovate in continuing education and training, two goals based on four different drivers of change:
- digital transition
- green transition
- sustainable and resilient food systems
- corporate sustainability.
AgriFood4Future answers multiple questions: how to produce efficiently and safely? How do you ensure that skills keep pace with technological, social, and climate change? How can agricultural production be made affordable and financially rewarding?
The Italian commitment
The 23 entities involved in the project will enable the dissemination of ecosystems of skills in innovation, regional development, and social inclusion. Italy takes the lead in AgriFood4Future thanks to the involvement of Clust-ER AgriFood, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, and Phorma Mentis. This partnership will foster the design of innovative solutions to improve education and training programs in Europe and adequately support companies engaged in a sustainable food chain.
The goals of AgriFood4Future
The mission of AgriFood4Future can be divided according to 3 objectives:
- The transformation of the agribusiness sector according to the parameters of sustainability, decarbonization, and digitalization.
- The implementation of innovative practices: climate-smart agriculture, precision agriculture, and regenerative practices.
- The dissemination of transversal technical skills.
These objectives will be concretized by a three-step pathway, starting with preparatory work, with skills assessment, moving through the creation of lasting partnership agreements, to the sedimentation of an action plan to ensure the concrete long-term sustainability of the project.
